Track-by-track informatie:
1. Voor de eerste track van haar nieuwe album wendde Bebel zich tot de Braziliaanse singer-songwriter Caetano Veloso, wiens nummer 'Baby' - met Engelse teksten van de invloedrijke Braziliaanse psychedelische band 'Os Mutantes' - opent met een zacht getokkel en een onderdrukte lach van de zangeres. 'I chose that song because it speaks so loudly to my heart,' zegt Bebel. 'The English lyrics by 'Os Mutantes' have a kind of humor that's something I have, as well. I thought it would be nice to have that side of my personality on the record.' Over Veloso, die van een outsider en muzikale rebel is geworden tot een nationaal icoon, zegt Bebel, 'Caetano has always been a part of my life. He is one of my idols.'

2. 'Simplesmente' (eenvoudig) introduceert een van de beste vrienden van Bebel, toetsenist Didi Gutman, die het nummer samen schreef met Bebel en producer/toetsenist Marius de Vries. 'Didi is one of my best friends,' legt Bebel uit. 'He's Argentinian, and he really understands how Brazilian music works.' De twee vrienden ontwikkelden een nauwe samenwerking gedurende de tijd dat ze samen onderweg waren, tijdens de Tanto Tempo toer.
'Most of the songs we wrote were written on the tour bus, or sometimes even during the soundcheck for a show,' legt ze uit, daaraan toevoegend dat 'Simplesemente' geboren werd tijdens een soundcheck in Nederland. 'He started playing those chords, then I came up with the melody.' Bebel geeft alle credits voor de scherpe Engelse tekst aan de Vries. 'My English is pretty basic,' geeft ze toe. 'I can speak, but I don't have the vocabulary that I have in Portuguese. He pointed out some ideas that just completed everything.'

3. Maverick percussionist en componist Carlinhos Brown schreef 'Aganjú', ontleent aan de naam van de Braziliaanse god Xangô, in de Afrikaanse taal van Yoruba. Xangô is een belangrijke figuur in de Braziliaanse religie van Candomblé, die Bebel omschrijft als 'a devotion to the saints for protection, good health, better life. The saints and this whole culture were brought by the Africans when they came to Brazil as slaves.' Over Brown's nummer zegt ze 'I think it's very, very magical and hypnotic.' Haar moeder Miúcha - een van Brazilië's beste vocalen - zingt met Bebel als achtergrondzangeres.

4. Bebel en Marius de Vries werkten samen aan 'All Around' met de Japanse gitarist Masaharu Shimizu. 'Masa Shimizu is an excellent musician, and he also has an incredible approach to the bossa nova', aldus Bebel. 'I think that Brazilians and Japanese, although the cultures are so distinct, somehow have a lot in common.' Een van de meest persoonlijke nummers op het album 'All Around' is tevens de favoriet van Bebel. 'It reflects exactly the pain I was going through when I wrote it: war had begun, I split up with my boyfriend, I split up with my management, so it was a totally 'all-around' situation.' Sometimes, when I'm writing songs, I have an inspiration that develops little by little, but in this case, the song came across in my heart so strong that I just couldn't control it.' Net als op drie andere nummers van de CD hoor je de pakkende strijkersarrangementen, geschreven door Chris Elliott (in samenwerking met Marius de Vries en Bebel), die in Londen werden opgenomen door een compleet strijkorkest.

5. Zoals 'All Around' zo spontaan in haar naar boven kwam, was het precies het tegenovergestelde met 'River Song'. 'It was the last song I wrote,' zegt Bebel. 'I had the idea to develop for a long time, but I just couldn't finish it.' De Vries leverde de inspirerende prikkel om het nummer af te maken, door het poëtische beeld bij haar op te roepen van de rivier die naar de zee gaat. Na vele maanden toeren, keerde Bebel terug naar Brazilië waar het nummer uiteindelijk helemaal in zicht kwam. 'Here, especially in Rio, you have mountains, you have waterfalls, you have the sea all around,' legt ze uit. 'So this song reflects a lot of Rio de Janeiro, the city where I grew up.'

6. 'Every Day You've Been Away' werd geschreven door twee jonge muzikanten wiens muzikale Braziliaanse wortels zo ver gaan als die van Bebel zelf. Daniel Jobim is den kleinzoon van Tom Jobim - in de rest van de wereld beter bekend als Antonio Carlos Jobim, de Bach van de bossa nova. 'I've known Daniel since he was two years old,' vertelt Bebel. 'He's an incredible piano player and composer.' Jobim's co-componist, Pedro Baby, is de zoon van zanger Baby Consuelo en gitarist Pepeu Gomes, beide afkomstig van het legendarische hippie instituut 'Novos Baianos'. De twee benaderden Bebel met een nummer waarvan ze zeiden dat zij de enige was die het kon zingen herinnert ze zich. 'It was such a deep and simple song, I loved it, and I had to record it.'

7. Bebel schreef 'Cada Beijo' (elke kus) samen met toetsenist Guy Sigsworth, die o.a. tracks schreef en produceerde voor Madonna, Lamb, Björk en Bomb The Bass. Guy stimuleerde haar om te streven naar spontaniteit. 'He totally left me free,' verklaart ze, 'but at the same time, he gave me so little - the song is so simple, with so little to develop - that my heart just started beating. I wrote the lyrics in 20 minutes, and the vocals you hear were all done on the day I wrote the song. Afterwards, he developed it with other instruments and production, but I wanted to leave that rawness in it. The spirit of the song is the spirit that I had when I wrote it.'

8. Het nummer 'O Caminho' (het pad) heeft enkel Bebel's credit als tekstschrijver en ironisch genoeg was dit juist een track die ze bijna niet wilde opnemen. Bebel schreef het nummer eigenlijk voor Cesaria Evora, de legendarische Kaapverdische koningin van de Morna. 'I think she never even got to hear it!' zegt Bebel. 'At the time, it was very important for me, because it was a challenge to write for someone else.' De teksten zijn echter intens persoonlijk: 'I was very, very sad and living in London,' herinnert Bebel zich. 'My boyfriend - the one I eventually split up with - was traveling constantly. And England is so melancholic, London, especially, rainy and gray. So the inspiration came from my heart, but I had to write a song on a deadline. And I'm kind of happy that Cesaria never recorded it, because then I could record it myself!'. 'O Caminho' bevat het prachtige pianospel van arrangeur en componist João Donato, een sleutelfiguur van het originele bossa nova tijdperk en tevens gastmuzikant op Tanto Tempo.

9. 'Winter', een andere samenwerking met Gutman en de Vries, zou best de zonnigst klinkende reflectie kunnen zijn op het koudste jaargetijde van het jaar. 'It's actually an older song,' zegt Bebel. 'It was one of the first songs I wrote after Tanto Tempo came out. And I really like it, because I saw how incredibly music and love and winter can be combined. I'm very, very happy with the result.' De track kan zich beroemen op een van de meest uitgekiende arrangementen, waarin gossamer keyboards drijven op zoete fluit, warme trombone en harmonica partijen.

10. Bebel vormde een team met multi-instrumentalist en arrangeur Pascal Gabriel voor het donkere, dramatische 'Céu Distante' (verre hemel). Pascal was betrokken bij verschillende grensverleggende vroege Britse house acts (S'Express, Bomb The Bass), voordat hij nummers ging schrijven en produceren voor New Order, Dido, en recentelijk Kylie Minogue. Zijn productie past heel goed bij Bebel's stem en dat geeft de track een vertrouwelijke sfeer die de melancholische en spirituele ontwrichting helemaal weergeeft - iets waar Bebel aan moest wennen gedurende haar intensieve toer voor Tanto Tempo. 'You can travel so much, go to so many different countries,' legt ze uit, 'and then you look up and ask: 'Why is the sky so different? Where is my sky, the sky of South America?' Dit nummer is een reflectie op alle verschillende hemels over de wereld waar Bebel onder gereisd heeft.  'Even if you're in London, the next day you can be in Nice and the sky can be different. And then you go to Thailand and you'll see a sky that's more like the sky of Brazil, because it's in the Southern Hemisphere. This really changed my heart a little, because it was like, 'Where are my references? Where are my stars?'

11. Carlinhos Brown doet het album terugkeren naar een meer grillige stemming met 'Jabuticaba'. Niettemin heeft het nummer een bepaalde sfeer van weemoedige nostalgie over zich dat verbonden lijkt met de Braziliaanse muziek. 'The jabuticaba is a well-known Brazilian fruit, a beautiful fruit that grows in the trunk of the tree instead of in its branches,' zegt Bebel. 'There was a jabuticaba tree at my grandmother's house, and I always liked to be in its shade, and sometimes - loofft - a jabuticaba drops on your head!' Over het waarom van dit nummer kan het antwoord niet simpeler zijn: 'Carlinhos Brown called me and said, 'Look, Bebel, I want you to write a song about jabuticaba, and it's got to be in English.' 'And to finish, he began to sing the melody. Can you imagine what I went through to write this song ?' zegt ze lachend. De rest van het muzikale aandeel van vakman en genie Brown bestond uit het verfraaien van de track met exotische instrumentatie als tamboerijn, tabla en Indian banjo.

12. Bebel Gilberto besluit deze plaat met 'Next To You', een adembenemend lief slaapliedje geschreven door Gutman en de Vries. 'I originally wanted to do it with vocals only,' zegt Bebel over het proces van dit nummer. 'But when Marius heard the song, he had an inspiration. And I've got to give him credit for the melody and arrangement. I think he was hearing the love in the song, and I think it works for any kind of love: for your daughter, for your wife, for your boyfriend, for nature. It's a song with so much hope, and I think it's adorable that people still believe that they can be happier next to whoever they are dreaming about.'
